Scope and decision

A SaaS link strategy starts with the resource a reader needs, not a list of domains. A product page explains an outcome; documentation helps complete a task. Sending every reference to the homepage can hide the information that made the reference useful.

What to inspect first

Inventory public resources and their owners. Check that an integration actually exists, a tutorial works with the current version, and a comparison states its method. A page behind a login may serve customers well but cannot be assumed to answer a public editorial reference.

Worked decision matrix

Imagine a scheduling product with a calendar integration. An article about reducing double bookings needs the integration workflow; a developer troubleshooting authentication needs documentation. A buyer comparing workflows needs a dated comparison with limitations. The four rows show these different destinations.

  • Product page: Reader task: Understand whether the software solves a specific workflow problem.; Evidence to prepare: Accurate capabilities, limitations and a clear route to further information.; Hold outreach when: Claims are broader than the actual feature or the page only repeats slogans.
  • Integration page: Reader task: Connect the scheduling product to a supported calendar.; Evidence to prepare: Current supported versions, setup steps and known limitations.; Hold outreach when: The integration is planned rather than available, or instructions cannot be verified.
  • Documentation: Reader task: Complete authentication or troubleshoot a specific error.; Evidence to prepare: A reproducible example, version context and an accessible explanation.; Hold outreach when: The example is outdated, exposes credentials or requires unexplained private access.
  • Comparison page: Reader task: Choose between workflows or approaches for a defined use case.; Evidence to prepare: Dated criteria, sources and explicit tradeoffs, including where another option fits.; Hold outreach when: The page declares a winner without evidence or hides material limitations.

Choose the next action

Choose a candidate source because its audience has the relevant task. Describe the specific missing reference or useful resource honestly and leave the editorial decision to its owner. For paid placements use appropriate sponsored or nofollow qualification; do not present payment as independent endorsement.

Keep a useful review record

Record source context, target URL, useful evidence, maintenance owner and review date. If a tutorial changes, update or replace the destination before repeating outreach. Measure observed referral activity separately from conversions, attribution assumptions and search positions; none proves a fixed monetary value per link.

  • Match the source reader’s task to the target page.
  • Verify the resource and assign a maintenance owner.
  • Keep editorial outreach separate from paid placement terms.
  • Track observed referrals without claiming causal ranking gains.

Limits and next steps

This is a planning method, not a directory of free SaaS sites, an AI outreach system or proof of exclusive publisher inventory. The scenario and resources are fictional. Verify actual placement terms and availability separately; no number of links or ranking improvement is promised.

This is a manual planning aid, not a live audit, supplier catalog or ranking prediction. Examples are fictional. Nothing is fetched or submitted; downloaded files stay on your device.
