Overview
A website reference on a LinkedIn profile can give readers a route to a relevant page. Its visibility and usefulness depend on the profile, the viewer and the current interface. A profile link does not guarantee crawling, indexing, referral traffic or search ranking.
Choose a useful destination
Select a page that matches what a profile visitor is likely to need: for example, a professional portfolio or a clear description of a service. Confirm the address works and that the page accurately describes the person or organization. Avoid describing a profile link as an endorsement by LinkedIn or as proof of a ranking benefit.
Contact info and custom buttons are different
LinkedIn's help documentation says a member can display up to three websites in the profile's Contact info. It describes opening the profile, choosing Contact info, editing the website entries and saving. Availability and display can change; use the current interface and verify the result for the relevant viewer.
A separate LinkedIn help page says the old Creator Mode profile hyperlink option was removed and describes a custom button available to certain paid products. Do not assume that button is available to every account or confuse it with the Contact info website fields. Check the current product and account terms before making a purchase decision.
A fictional example and review record
A freelance illustrator wants prospective clients to see a portfolio. They select a portfolio page containing current work and contact details, then record the chosen URL, intended audience and date checked. If they add it to Contact info, they should save the setting and verify what a permitted viewer can actually see. The example does not claim that a LinkedIn account was accessed or changed.
Record the profile surface, displayed link, destination, observation date and who can update it. If the portfolio address changes, update the destination in the profile and recheck it. If viewer access or a link attribute cannot be observed, mark it unknown; a profile setting alone does not establish how a search engine evaluates the link.

Measure separately
Where appropriate analytics exist, compare referral visits over a stated period. A visit count is not proof that a link was indexed or that it caused a ranking change. Avoid claims about universal link attributes or guaranteed SEO value without an actual observation of the relevant surface.
