Overview

A useful reference can help a person find accurate practice information or a relevant resource. Start with the patient question and the page that answers it. A backlink does not guarantee an appointment, search visibility or a local ranking.

Prepare a page worth referencing

Check the practice name, contact details, accessibility information and appointment instructions against the practice's current records. If the page includes clinical statements, identify an appropriately qualified reviewer, the evidence used and the date of review. Do not invent credentials or suggest that a routine link is an endorsement.

A fictional local example

A dental practice wants patients to know how to arrange an accessible appointment. It drafts a page describing how to contact the practice to discuss access needs. The practice verifies the telephone number and has its staff review the process. A local community organization may find the page relevant to its audience, but the example does not claim an existing partnership or a published link. Before contacting anyone, the practice checks whether the resource is current, useful and appropriate for the audience; outreach happens only with the practice's approval.

Review each opportunity

Record the source page, the audience it serves, why the resource is relevant, the proposed destination and the person responsible for keeping it current. Identify whether payment or a reciprocal link is required and consult Google's link qualification guidance where applicable. Keep unknown terms unconfirmed. Do not create near-identical location pages for places where the practice has no distinct information or real eligibility.

Measure and maintain

After any authorized placement, record the actual source URL and date, verify the destination and revisit the reference if the practice's details change. Referral visits can be measured separately where analytics are available. Google describes local ranking in terms of relevance, distance and prominence; no placement guarantees a particular result. The guide is an SEO workflow, not dental advice.
